Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for the student's final exam. She had a solid understanding of most topics, especially slope and distance formula. She needed a little review of triangle congruences and angle sums of polygons, which will be gone over again in the next session."
"There were two parts to our tutoring session. First of all, we did a few problems on the mock final packet that the student was given in class. The main issues were recalling the concepts on the final that the student has learnt over the semester, but also guiding the student to write his answers properly and neatly so as to catch any or all partial credit, should he not be able to arrive at the final answer. The student was able to go to the end of every question, and now the question is if he will be able to solve all questions without making conceptual or arithmetic mistakes along the way. As he covers all concepts again in the review for the final, his performances will improve. We then switched to biology and wrote down all the topics anticipated for the cumulative final. We started a study plan whereby the student will study the first part of the respiration system in preparation for a Q&A during our next session."
"We went through The student geometry homework and made sure that he understood how to do all of the problems and show his work. Going into finals my biggest concern for him would be making sure he understands how to show his work when he is working on homework and tests, which we will continue to work on."
"Today we covered parallel lines and properties of a transversal. We reviewed how to set up equations from the angles given that were formed by the transversal. The student did very well with this topic. He initially had some struggle with trying to figure out if the angles were congruent or supplementary, but at the end of the lesson he was able to tell the difference. We also covered how to write the equations of a line given 2 points. He was very positive about the material and he demonstrated that he understands how to work each concept. Our next session is Tuesday and he has some practice problems to complete before we meet."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed a final project that her teacher assigned. The project was a series of quadratic equations that needed to be factored and solved. It was clear to me that she could do the work, but was not thinking about the best means to solve the problems. When she was given small hints, she was able to quickly and easily solve the problems with very little difficulty."
"Circles and related theorems seem to be at the forefront. The student seemed apprehensive at first. I think that she was familiar with the concepts, but needs problem-solving practice. We will continue to work on this."
