"We covered Algebra and Sentence Completions for the SAT. The student is attentive and follows directions well. I gave her some extra practice problems to do on her own time and stressed the importance of studying vocab."
"Here's a recap of what we covered in our session. SAT ESSAY- The student should spend a few minutes creating an outline that should consist of a thesis statement and 3 strong examples that will serve as evidence for your argument, body paragraphs (should explain how this thing is an example of your argument). SAT MATH- We covered equations--solving for x and y (get variable alone on one side-anything you do to one side of the equation you have to do to the other side as well)."
"We practiced through a variety of math problems, once again, in order to boost the student's skills and confidence for the section. She is getting much better at the algebra-based problems, and she is getting more comfortable with the plug-in strategies. However, she still needs to reinforce her basic skills on her own so that these become second-nature to her by the time of the test. As such, a learning tools website will be a great resource in the pre-algebra and algebra sections. I urged her to work on these skills at the very least 15-20 minutes each day."
"Today, we covered a little bit of everything, concluding with a timed math section, as that is the only area where the student is struggling a bit with timing. She's made so much progress and is ready for the test. We also discussed how to conquer test anxiety."
"The student is taking the first of two SAT exams on Dec. 5th; so, he wanted the focus of this session to be on Reading Comprehension. We approached the practice test with the strategies that we have been discussing, and while going over the answers, I continued to instruct on the type of questions that each one was. In addition, we did a meticulous breakdown of each answer choice -- we dissected the reasons an answer was right and why he got an answer wrong. In addition to an in-depth approach to the Reading Comp. section, we worked on the Essay section, focusing on an outline for the right approach to building an essay according to "what the SAT expects." I left him with some homework for the Essay section."
"The student and I met to go over the practice test that she took over the weekend. Overall, her scores increased, although she still wants to improve. Specifically, she feels she needs a lot of work in Critical Reading, and I agree. Her Writing score has gone up significantly, by at least 100 points. Her Math score has also gone up. We also reviewed her essay. She did a great job getting specific, and she chose great examples. We'll continue to work on Math and CR over the next week."
