"We set up a schedule for him to follow to stay on track with his subjects. We made it around the schedule that he already has, so that he gets used to a more steady and structured schedule. He gave me plenty of feedback and was willing to try the structured schedule."
"I worked with the student on biology. He had a test coming up on Wednesday and was concerned about it. The chapter covered was about molecular biology, especially chromosomes and genes. The vocabulary presented in the book was very technical and very difficult. The student's English is good and he is very intelligent, but the material was tough. I explained the language and vocabulary to him to the best of my ability. We answered questions on reading comprehension, key vocabulary, and key concepts. Some of the questions were multiple-choice, and those were easier. He understands the concepts after explanation, but it can be a challenge because he does not have the vocabulary or the background context that would allow him to sort out things on his own. We will continue to work on this next session. The student is bright and engaging and very easy to work with."
"We worked on the reading comprehension assignments. The student received a good grade on Part Three of "Fahrenheit 451." There was also a pop vocabulary quiz. The student's reading comprehension is improving. She does not think she understands what she is reading, but the portions she read today she did understand. We will continue to work on this next session."
"We worked on pre-writing through a traditional outline building on the brainstorming notes the student had from our last session. Learning how to outline seemed to help him see the big picture of his essay better. In the future, we are going to work on transitions to create better flow between ideas. For next weekend, he should finish writing his essay and choose another debate topic for the next essay."
"The student and I worked on the module about comparing different texts and the American identity. There was a writing workshop assignment that required an essay, so we wrote a side-by-side comparison essay comparing a poem and a short story. This was the last module of this unit, so we completed the unit review and all the student has to do now is take the unit test at school."
