Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the present tense and touched on past tense conjugations. The student struggled most with pronunciation but is a quick learner. The student seemed to have a positive attitude. During the session, we did practice sentences and practice verb conjugations. I left the student with some notes and a list of vocabulary words. There were no scores because this was the first session, and the student is learning for personal enrichment. The student learned quickly particularities of the language that are usually not learned for a while in French study."
"Today the student and I worked on conjugation (review imperfect of irregular verbs ), review on reflexive pronouns , and pronominal verbs."
"Tonight the student and I studied boire, voir, et croire and practiced using them in sentences. Then we studied the use of "en," both with "combien de" and a number and with quantifying words, such as "trop de," "peu de," "assez de," etc. Next we reviewed concepts from her class distinguishing "de" with lack of articles and the use of articles, between nouns paired with quantifying words and nouns not paired with them, respectively. Finally, we reviewed the comparative form of French, and we added "autant de," a quantifying word that we were able to link back to the previous bit. She seemed to have studied more before today's session than before any other, which is exactly what needs to be happening to move toward success in the class. I was, once again, impressed with her ability to conceptualize the grammar."
"The student needed help with her project for French class which was about making a PowerPoint presentation in French about a chosen food - the recipe of macaroons. She is very organized and shows good structure in her action which will surely help her improve her knowledge. While translating the recipe, several words of vocabulary and key words to locate and ask questions were introduced."
"We went over counting from 1 to 20, as well as some location phrases such as en face de, devant. The student appeared to feel the least confident in this area. She had some papers to fill out as well for her class with basic info such as birthdate, hair color, eye color, and we went over some of those vocabulary words she was not familiar with. She asked for some explanation on combining de le to du and de les to des. This worked out well with our location exercises as there were many times this was applicable in putting those phrases in a complete sentence. She had a very good attitude and was very inquisitive and attentive."
"For this tutoring session, I tested the student's knowledge of the vocab words on French celebrations we had previously worked on last tutoring session. I then spent the remainder of the session teaching her the grammar rules of using direct object pronouns. After the explanation, I demonstrated the concept through multiple examples. We then discussed several of the related grammar exercises in her workbook."
