Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I concluded our sessions for this school year reviewing multi-digit division and choosing the best strategy for him to use going forward. We also talked about understanding fractions as they relate to division and the whole. We worked on adding fractions as an introduction with like and unlike denominators."
"Went through the chemistry prelab on acids and bases. Reviewed pH and pOH concepts (calculating and relationship between). Went through the math homework on probability (combinations/permutations)."
"Today we started our unit 9 review on money. I was so impressed with the student's advances in division and subtraction. Great session!"
"Today we worked on learning how to find the distance, midpoint and endpoint of a line given certain data on a coordinate plane. The student understands the concepts, but is still having trouble with correctly computing general mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) when negative numbers come into play. I'm working with her on methods to fix that."
"The student and I worked on inequalities and number lines. Then we moved on the addition and subtraction of inequalities. After explaining how to properly read the inequality he understood the concept. We also worked on addition and subtraction of inequalities. This was new to him but he was able to catch on fairly quickly."
"We started off the session reviewing rounding to the nearest 100s place using a number line. The student has a pretty good grasp on this concept, in the future we will review it in the form of drills (used partially as mental breaks when working with difficult concepts), but will probably not need a formal lesson again. The student then completed a worksheet on simple multiplication word problems, as she was struggling most with multiplication in multi-step problems last session. We worked on writing down the question all of the information needed in this simpler form. The student did well on these word problems. The student completed a 5 minute multiplication drill and was able to complete all of the problems. We worked on writing the question and making a list of all of the information in the problem. We also worked on labeling things in intermediate steps. We also practiced looking at the question at the end of the problem to make sure that we answered it."
