Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We are looking at applications of derivatives. We also are looking at graphing derivatives of functions. He doing great with the material and is good at using the graphing applications to help find the answer."
"We continued our work on calculus today, bringing in some example problems. We reviewed the product, quotient, and chain rules. We built on the lessons about critical points and maximums/ minimums to evaluate peaks of parabolic and sinusoidal motion. We also covered the derivatives of the log, natural log, sin and cos, and using those, she was able to derive the derivatives for sec and tan. I showed her the derivative through trickery technique to get the derivative of arcsin(x) and she used this technique to derive the derivative of arccos(x/a). All in all, a very successful class."
"We focused on the definite integral and some word problems. The problems we worked on were a review of the material we had worked on over the previous week. The student was enthusiastic, and seemed to be grasping the concepts. There was a little bit of a mixup when working through the algebra, but overall she did well."
"We used this session as an opportunity to review the major derivation concepts we've covered so far. We spent the majority of the session working through review problems for the product rule, the quotient rule and the chain rule and identifying when to use each rule in a set of mixed problems. By the end of the session, the student seemed very comfortable with these concepts and was able to complete the problems without any mistakes."
"We continued working on the packet. I introduced polar equations and converting them to rect coordinates. We also spent time learning about partial fraction decomp. We completed the problem in the packet and discussed it in relation to integration."
"First, we reviewed the assigned problems I gave the student on Wednesday and he seemed to have a little trouble with them. We went over the questions and reviewed some of concepts that he learned in the last session. He seemed to have a pretty good grasp of the topics but to assure that he was comfortable with the material, I gave him more problems on related rates and optimization. For the second half of the session, we went over the Maclaurin series and worked on a few practice problems. I assigned him a few problems on the Maclaurin series but we will continue going over it in our next session. He was receptive during the session, but I told him that if he has any questions about the concepts and any of the problems, he should feel free to message me and let me know before our next session so we don't focus too much time on the previous session's concepts during our lessons. Overall, he was engaged and continued to ask questions if he had them."
