Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered more examples and problems involving limits as well as some information about the unit circle. The student was having trouble with solving limits where simply plugging a number into the equation results in 0/0. We determined that plugging in numbers closer and closer to those specific values was the best method for determining the limit."
"Today we covered the epsilon-delta definition of a limit, the power rule, and the limit definition of the derivative. The student had a great attitude and picked up quickly on the concepts we went over. She struggled the most with the epsilon-delta problems. I think she benefited greatly from our meeting."
"We reviewed graphing derivatives, instantaneous velocity, average velocity, and slope of tangent lines through a point."
"I reviewed the student's homework and corrected some derivative problems. We focused on chain rule (power-fxn-angle), interpreting graphs, and finding tan lines."
"Today, we covered precalculus and calculus topics that were on the student's past test. Specifically, we looked at domain, range, types of discontinuities, functions, and delta-epsilon theorem."
"I learned the student's past briefly, and then we went over the first two chapters, to try to catch him up and give a little preview for next session. Specifically, we went over functions, relations, all the families of functions, their transformations, even and odd functions, composite functions, and inverses. I taught him that the basic definition formula for a derivative is nothing more than the familiar slope formula. I encourage him to work more on recalling algebra skills, as algebra in calculus can get intense. He has a good attitude and is motivated. He is going to go over more problems and review the ones we did together. In the future, I will bring another Calculus book along to provide more practice as we go on in the term. We have a session scheduled for Monday evening at 7pm."
