Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on subtraction, identifying places of large numbers (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands), greater/less than, simple addition/subtraction to large numbers, etc. The student has greatly improved on her basic addition skills when it comes to single digits. She has also improved with subtraction as well. She seems to be very confident with greater than and less than math and did very well with those questions. She has a good understanding of number places as well."
"Review of subtraction facts and continued work with multiplication, using arrays to explain the concept. I left the student with addition, subtraction, and multiplication practice."
"Student and I read from a new library book, "Pinky and Rex and the School Play," for 15 minutes. Next, I had her practice her handwriting, which is something her father previously requested be incorporated into her sessions. I'd neatly written a list of seven various words, for which I requested she rewrite each three times. We then moved onto her two-sided math worksheet, which provided multiplication, subtraction, and addition practice. Lastly, I had her write her two Red Words (vocabulary words) five times each, without looking at them first, to verify that she knew how to correctly spell them, and she spelled each word correctly all five times."
"The student and I worked on homework today. She was a lot faster with completing the "Counting Backwards" homework sheets - a big improvement from yesterday. We also practiced her spelling, reading, and vocabulary list. Prior to her test, she should spend at least an hour practicing for her test on Thursday."
"The student began her session with her grammar lesson. We reviewed classifying sentences and introduced the complete subject and the complete predicate. Then, we continued the lesson with her spelling words and reviewed phonograms. The session then continued with cursive and completing work in her cursive workbook. We also reviewed her history unit, "The River Road" and her math lesson, which included the base ten model using her abacus and abacus cards."
"In today's session, the student and I worked on rhyming words, two letter blends, and sight words. She practiced creating words with blends and creating rhyming pairs. She also worked on writing and spelling sight words, and using sight words in sentences. She read from the primary reader and practiced sounding out words from the reader. She is sounding out words more and more. I can see a bit more confidence in her. We will continue to work on sight word recognition and blending sounds."
