Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on math and science for our session. He is gradually improving in both areas. When we went over missed problems from his practice test, he was able to quickly find the correct answer the second time. The time constraints on the exam make it difficult for him to look at the problems in depth, but this will improve with additional practice."
"We looked at more multiple choice problems as well as some grid-in problems focusing on various topics including graphs of functions, sequences, properties of integers, inequalities, and exponentials. We reviewed independent and dependent variables as well as function notation. We also looked at ways to visualize or sketch a problem in order to understand what it is asking. Once he is able to visualize a figure, the student does well using geometry to answer the questions. The student is doing better at being able to prove when certain properties must be true verses when certain properties could be true."
"Today, the student and I reviewed in depth a practice test I had asked her to take and score this past week. We reviewed strategies for answering multiple choice questions, discerning meaning of vocabulary via context clues, and capturing the main point of a given passage (passages included poetry and prose, contemporary and 17/18th century literature). Afterward, I had her do two exercises and then we reviewed those answers. While the prose passage exercise gave her some trouble, she fully understood the correct answers and how she might have selected them. On this practice test, she received a 660, just shy of her goal of 700."
