Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on genetic mapping and how spatial arrangements of alleles and loci can determine how often they recombine due to how far apart they are. She and I worked on how to determine these maps using test crosses with homozygous recessive and heterozygous parents to expose gene patterns."
"We went over a lot of basic microbiology concepts: transformation/transduction/conjugation, as well as operons. We also went over practice questions. The student struggles with basic concepts, but learns quickly, so reinforcement and application of knowledge seems to work best."
"We worked on conservation of momentum and on understanding how much kinetic energy was lost in some given inelastic collisions. We worked on "mapping" strategies for solving problems--that is, figuring out what "intermediate" questions need to be answered, based on given information, before one can actually find the answer to the specific question(s) that might have been posed in the problem. The student is not struggling with any particular concept, but does need occasional guidance in mapping out particular solutions. The student's attitude is excellent. I had no particular concerns from this session."
