Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed several verbal practice problems together so I could get a sense of his strengths and weaknesses. His reading comprehension is quite good, but I think he could use some vocabulary practice. I had him start making a vocabulary list and suggested he make flashcards for homework. I have asked him to work on reviewing the vocabulary 15 minutes per night. I also suggested he start reading fiction, as I believe that exposure to strong writing helps students read and write more effectively, as well as improve their vocabulary. Together, we agreed that a good book for him to start reading is The Hobbit, and he has been assigned 15-30 minutes of reading time per night. Next week, I intend to start introducing timed sessions regularly into our lessons. I believe the more test practice he gets, the better he will do."
"We graded the test that student had taken last weekend to get a basis for her scores. She completed part of the test that I had assigned for homework. Even with the limited sections she had completed, I could tell that there was an improvement in her critical reading, which is awesome! We reviewed the errors she had made, and she understood why the correct responses were better than those she had selected. She will complete the rest of the test for our session on Wednesday."
"I reviewed score report from recent college entrance exam that the student took. She made significant improvements from previous test, mostly in reading and math. We continued work on math fundamentals. We also reviewed homework, and practiced analyzing problems carefully."
