Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Focused on the ISEE, mostly Math and the Quant Comparison section. Did some good vocab review as well. The student's getting sharper with the Math stuff, and is acing the Reading section."
"This afternoon the student and I began with a review of the homework that I had assigned last session, paying particular attention to the questions in her weakest sections: percentages and algebra. She struggles a bit with simplifying algebraic expressions, so we reviewed concepts of like terms, exponent rules, and the cardinal rule of equations. I'm assigning her some more practice on this topic to make sure she feels completely comfortable with it! Eventually we moved on to drilling basic geometry, practicing with the two-column quantitative reasoning problems. We found that she scored poorly in this section on the diagnostic exam NOT because she didn't understand the material, but because she didn't understand the question format. Now that we've sorted through that problem, her quantitative reasoning score should shoot up! For the last third of our time together, we introduced helpful strategies for vocabulary and sentence completion problems. For homework, I'm including a list of vocabulary words for her to memorize before next week's session. Great work today!"
"We practiced quantitative reasoning problems of all types, then worked through a number of quantitative comparison questions."
