"Today we reviewed subtraction with regrouping. I took it a step further and incorporated three-digit numbers with two zeros which required the student to regroup. I allowed him to attempt the questions but also gave him some guidance when needed. After explaining the steps to take to answer the problems correctly he was able to complete the remainder of the questions correctly. Next I taught him a mnemonic to help remember the correct order of operations. I assigned some problems for him to answer using this new skill and he answered all the questions correctly. He was also able to recite the mnemonic and tell me the correct order of operations. We looked at word problems together and I instructed him to underline the key words and circle the relevant numbers in the word problems. I provided a chart that grouped key words based on the operation they implied. While working through the word problems I allowed him to refer to the chart and explain to me his thought process. After doing this, he was able to identify the correct key words and associate them with the correct operation. He still needs some more practice, so I assigned a few word problems for homework and instructed him to use the chart for assistance. We briefly discussed equivalent fractions so we will review in more detail next session."
"Today the student worked with adding three digit numbers and decomposing numbers into expended form. The student also practiced with doubles, complements of 10, number families, and adding a number to 10. Great work!"
"Worked on her homework assignment. Reviewed fractions to decimals, percent to decimals then to decimals. Reviewed how to find the percent of a number. She seemed to understand what we were working on. Gave her a few pointers to make some problems less complicated."
"The student and I completed a review of her math homework and her spelling practice over the course of the hour. Her math performance was excellent and she has definitely improved her mental math capabilities when it comes to multiplication. Her spelling errors were easy to correct and she showed enormous breadth of vocabulary, only messing up when it came to irregular word endings and reversing -re or -te combinations. She was quick to pick up on hand motions to help her remember words which is not surprising because she likes being active."
