Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a small quiz coming up Friday and then a larger one next week. I wanted to focus on trigonometric functions and the chain rule so I put up a number of challenging problems and had her take their derivatives. This required multiple layers of product rule and chain rule. I also showed her a new technique she had not learned in class called "u-substitutions," so that she can have another tool at her disposal when taking challenging derivatives."
"In this session we worked on an assignment about inverse functions and their derivatives. Overall, the student was able to grasp the concepts very quickly once I explained them. Upon leaving, the student had to complete the remainder of the assignment."
"We covered derivatives, second derivatives, increasing and decreasing functions, relative and absolute minimum and maximum, concavity and inflection points. We also discussed the derivatives of exponents and logarithmic functions. We then reviewed some word problems that applied these concepts. The student has a test this week and after our review session, she had a good understanding of the material and knew how to solve the various problems. Overall, it was a very productive session."
"Today we covered two sections in chapter 10 that will be covered on the student's upcoming quiz. We have another session scheduled for tomorrow where we'll go over a review sheet to help further prepare him for his quiz. He seemed comfortable with 10.1, so we will continue to review 10.2 in more detail before his quiz."
"Today we went over more derivatives, limits, and probability density for the student to get ready for her final on Monday. Everything went very well and she is really starting to understand the material now. I have no concerns from our session and am going to be working with her again tonight on more practice problems."
"Because the student's final is on Wednesday, we spent this session going over practice problems that she would likely deal with on the final. The majority of the time was spent on the different types of methods used to find seat distributions and interest rates."
