Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over new material about finding the part of the plane described by 2 or more inequalities. Then we reviewed some statistical concepts and did some problems. He is having an increased ability and sense about algebra."
"Topics Covered: Inequalities, graphing inequalities, word problems She has a strong understanding of slopes and knowing which side of the function satisfied the inequality. Her ability to graph quickly using an intercept and the slope is getting much better. Had some issues in rearranging inequalities from standard form to slope intercept form."
"We covered graphs, specifically linear and parabolas. We also covered functions of an equation. I briefly explained the concepts, then we went over a few homework problems to make sure that the material was comprehended, but I left the remainder of the homework problems for the student to finish individually after the session. The student received a 92 on a quiz grade that was on the material that we covered previously."
"We covered direct proportionality (y=kx), sequences and how to relate a table from a recursive rule to an explicit rule, as well as what to do with an explicit rule once you have it. Finally, we covered lines and how to find an equation from two points (solve for slope, then use slope-intercept or point-slope form to get the added constant term, b). The student seemed to get everything when I presented it, and I just hope it sticks enough for his test. I left him to copy down the four pages of techniques/ study sheets into his notebook, which I highly recommend he looks back at a couple of times before his test--most of today was me talking and presenting, which is great for covering information but won't stick quite as well if he doesn't get hands-on experience applying it on his own."
"The student and I covered some word problems, mainly about exponents. We worked on how to solve a problem with variables in the exponents. She is an extremely fast learner and I think she has a good grasp on the concepts. The thing she struggled with the most towards the end of the session was having fractions in the exponents, which I will make sure to highlight again next time. She is very fast but sometimes makes some mistakes (on the easy parts of the problem) because of how fast she's going, so I try to make her go back and check her work."
"The student and I went over her homework and some questions from before. She knows most of her work except a couple of questions. We spent most of the time studying algebra one competition questions. I will continue focusing on expanding her knowledge. I believe before long, she will be quite ahead of her grade."
