Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had completed his homework assignments, so we reviewed notations using song lyrics. He compared the lyrics of the Beatles song "I'm a Loser" to a novel he enjoys, Stargirl. At first, he didn't understand what it meant to properly notate/connect the music and literature, but once he figured it out, he excelled and commented that it was fun."
"In today's lesson, we worked on sounding out words/decoding and reading comprehension. We started off finishing a story we started over a week ago, "Ms. Turtle the Babysitter." I asked the student questions about what she remembered about the story, and then she read the rest of the book. She did very well recalling information from over a week ago and did well when I asked her comprehension questions about the rest of the story, which we had finished today. I then had her read a short fictional story and answer multiple choice questions, as well as one constructed response question and drawing one picture. These questions tested her comprehension skills and skills with making inferences from what she read. We finished the lesson with her starting to read a new book, "The Berenstain Bears All Aboard." She did a good job sounding out the words, though sometimes needed reminders to slow down or to look at the word again. Overall, this session went very well."
"I worked with Student A for 45 minutes on a literacy and writing assignment and with Student B for 45 minutes on various reading strategies and phonics work."
