"We went over the Math and Reading sections that the student did over the holiday, so we now have a full exam's worth of scores to use as a baseline. We also established a full study calendar that covers the entire study manual and supplementary practice exams. The current plan is to have him solve the equivalent of 10+ practice exams before the real exam. I intend to supplement the book and tests with practice sets, as necessary."
"Today we covered Science strategies and worked on pacing for ACT Science. The student completed an ACT Science practice test and scored 30/40, or approximately a 27 scaled score. He finished all of the questions on time. The area of most challenge was pacing. We briefly began to review geometry and I left the student with a set of geometry practice problems for next week."
"The student and I started to work through problems, so I could gauge her approach to solving and with different material. We spent time reviewing algebra, graphing lines, exponents, and log functions. We also looked at a short reading passage and a few vocab questions. The student is going to find some practice materials, which will help when she takes practice tests and studying the vocab terms. On Sunday, we will continue to review math concepts, and spend some time on the assessment science section."
"Another inspiring session with the student. She wants it badly. She needs more opportunity to improve. I will send another two diagnostics to be completed, if possible, before next Sunday. She is a star, and I would be happy to make time for three sessions a week."
"The student is a very pleasant young man. He would like to raise his ACT score in hopes of having a better chance at achieving college admissions. We discussed his previous exams and he is going to get a breakdown of his scores from his guidance counselor. We did both math and English sample questions I brought. He needs more work in reviewing math concepts, comma and semicolon usage. He told me he's confident of his essay and reading skills and wants to focus more on other topics."
"Today we covered all subjects relating to the ACT, as our sessions are winding down. We covered Math material that the student has had issues with, as well as full practice of Science material through review of passages and multiple choice. We also discussed tips and strategies for time management and overall testtaking. Based on the scoring of the diagnostics and ACT practice exams, the student has improved his composite by about 56 points! There were no concerns for this session."
"We met Monday to cover more test material. We went over a reading section he had done, where he is doing fairly well but missing a few that I think is caused by going too quickly. He isn't as worried about this section and I don't think its as big of an issue relative to math and science. After doing more science problems, he is realizing that he will have a hard time doing the science problems within the time frame given and so we will need to do more work for it. We then went over some more math concepts, and I told him to do some more ACT practice problems for next time."

We started with a review of test 2 math problems that she had completed for extra practice. Overall, the student did OK with the less difficult problems. We talked a lot about strategy for her through the math section. We also discussed how she can use the answers to plugnchug problems she doesn't necessarily remember how to solve.
For extra practice this week the student has 11 math problems, 2 science passages, and 2 reading passages."

"Today, we covered the science portion of the admissions test. The student did very well today. On Tuesday, I want to practice some timed tests with him so that he can start feeling comfortable with the time constraints."
"The student and I worked on the Math and Science portions of the test. In anticipation of this session, I had assigned her a Math diagnostic test last week, which she completed. Based on her results, I created her individualized learning plan. We worked through most of those problems and isolated some trouble spots. We also worked through half of a Science diagnostic test and discussed some strategies for success on the Science and Math portions. She will complete these study materials on her own. Next week, we plan to do a cumulative review of all the testing materials based on her specific needs."
"Worked through 1 English passage, experimenting with different testtaking strategies. I think we developed a timing strategy that will give him the structure he needs in order to maintain focus throughout the exam. By giving him specific timing per question for each section with built in breaks and buffer periods, I hope he will be able to raise his scores. He has the timing strategy and the homework schedule over the next few weeks until he is home again for winter break."
"Today we worked on the Math section and focused on triangles. We worked on applying the Pythagorean theorem to multiple different types of problems, and touched on sine, cosine, and tangent. By the end of the session, he seemed to grasp how and when to apply the theorem. I encouraged him to look at the study guide I sent him and we will go over that next time we meet."
