Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This tutoring session was definitely our best yet. The student was responding to questions correctly, he has things memorized and he was choosing what he wanted to learn. He's having a little trouble with his confidence but I'm trying to get him as positive as possible. He says he currently has a B+ in the class. We worked a lot of transitional expressions and then moved on to the present subjunctive. These two topics covered most of the time and I had him take photos of the textbook we were using."
"The student and I studied for her test tomorrow, which is on the past participle. We then worked on her language lab homework and almost completed it. We focused on the grammar exercises that were relevant to her test tomorrow."
"The client and I finished preparing for her test tomorrow. We continued conjugating verbs and I gave her some rules for remembering where to place the accent marks. I also explained in more detail what an auxiliary verb is (haber, ir, estar) and how they are conjugated affects translation of the perfect and progressive tenses. She had a practice quiz in class today and did very well. She genuinely sounded excited that she has a better handle on the verb drills and how to finish strong in her class."
"Today, the student and I had an extra session in order to prepare her for her test tomorrow. We went over the vocabulary cards we made on Sunday. We broke up the large pile into bits and exercised them until she had them completely memorized. Then we reviewed irregular verbs in the imperative. We reviewed what several verbs meant. Then we did verb exercises, as well as translation exercises. I gave her test-taking tips. I think she will do very well tomorrow, provided she continues studying until test time."
"The student and I had a great session today! We talked for a half hour solely in Spanish using as much vocab in our conversation as we could. For the final hour, he and I went over all the vocab in chapter 1A in preparation for his final exam next week. I had asked him the last time we met to review his vocab so we'd have a good base from which to work. He clearly did this because we had a very productive vocab memorization and review session today! If he feels like meeting again before his final exam, my schedule is open. I really think that memorizing the vocabulary is key for him as far as succeeding on this next exam goes."
"We covered negatives, indirect pronouns, verb change, changing verbs past/present, and irregular words. As this was the first lesson, I spent time just getting to know the student. He felt positive with the session."
