Tutoring review by Naquita in Greenbelt, MD
The student and I worked on circumference and area of circles. She was very confident with the formulas for these concepts. We also reviewed area of triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids as well as completed a vocabulary study guide on angles. We had to look up angle rotations on a coordinate grid, but were able to figure it out.

This session we continued to work on percent increases and increases. I tried to make the process of these problems clearer by comparing some normal sentences and the language therein to the math sentences that we see in word problems (I left a rough sheet on this that she can look back at). We then worked on a few problems that I wrote up. She is getting better at this concept, but there is still a disconnect between the two primary steps of problems like these: finding the amount increased/decreased from the original amount based on the percent increased/decreased, and then finding the new amount. I tried to emphasize that the problems were typically just two problems in one: finding a percent of a number, then putting that answer in place of the percent in the original problems and simply performing the arithmetic necessary. The sheet I left with her shows this a little bit clearer.

The student and I went over more difficult problems that she had from class to work on. At this point, we're working on solidifying every concept she's learned over the course of the year to get her ready for the AP exam. I can see a lot of progress in her confidence already. For next time, we will still be working on more AP problems.

The student was working with work, kinetic energy, and computing dot products in this assignment, and basically needed some help with understanding what work was. Once she had a better handle on that idea, she seemed to be more comfortable with some of the computations.

We covered organismal biology. The student had a great attitude and worked to overcome all subject struggles. He will take two exams this week, make test correction cards, and review them every night. He will also be sent material this Wednesday to review. We determined that he will be taking the E form of the test. He has been great to work with!

We caught the student up on her missed lessons for exponent rules and introduction to exponential equations. I left her with 3 pages of practice problems since we did almost entirely guided practice during the lesson. Answer sheets were included so she can prepare for her assessment on Friday.
