Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This is a bright student! We reviewed his English vocabulary terms, and then began his Honors Geography project (five of the twelve parts were done by tonight). He also received an A on his Biology test (his worst grade so far), so that was great to see. "
"The student and I went over his notes from class and practiced some problems in the book. We took raw data and practiced finding the mean, then setting up a chart to determine (x - x-bar), (x - x-bar)^2, and finally, the standard deviation. We discussed how to determine which standard deviation formula to use (sample versus population) and determined the z-score for real data as well as hypothetical points."
"The student brought a written test she had taken previously and we went over it. Certain things that we need to continue working on in the future include dissociation reactions and equations (Ksp) and organic chemistry reactions. She should continue taking as many practice tests as possible in her spare time, and I'll see her again on Monday afternoon."
"Before the lesson, I prepared lessons focusing on root words and comprehension. The student was doing extremely well with these lessons. I realized that the problem with the student's reading scores were much more basic than I expected. She was struggling with basic vowel sounds. I quickly changed the lesson and went over basic vowel pairs and rules with the student. I believe this is exactly what the student needed."
"Had the student practice making sentences when given only a verb and a noun. I then taught him the role of verbs in a sentence and why it is important to use verbs correctly. I also had him do some spelling practice."
"Today I reviewed homework problems with the student. The problems covered economies of scale, marginal product of labor, incorporation, economic v. accounting profits, and rents. He has a test next Friday, so I will be meeting with him twice next week."
