Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met and discussed reflections and rotations of geometric figures. We worked the problems on one worksheet and then started working on the practice test. He and I focused on visualizing math and discussed confidence. We worked a few word problems and discussed strategy for word problems and started a math English dictionary. Good session."
"Today, I initially worked with the student on her math project, regarding a real life parabola. We then went over her English history extra credit homework, in which I outlined what and when she would need to do this assignment. I also wrote out a time frame for editing and drafting. She began working on her assignment and she did very, very well, but I assigned her chapter 5 work to do every other problem. We went over concepts for chapter 6, but this will be assigned next session. I am keeping tabs on what needs to be worked on. She and I touched base on her extra credit assignment before I left."
"We worked on her dream house project. We focused on scaling back her design to make the work more manageable, and on understanding the size of a meter."
"We covered finding the equation of planes, lines, and spheres. We also covered projections and components. The student struggled with remembering all of the equations, something that, from my experience, is very challenging to do. I tried to help her remember equations by visualizing what we're looking for. With practice, she will get them all memorized. Tomorrow we will continue reviewing for her test Friday."
"Today we started by giving the student 3 problems similar to the ones we'd worked on last Sunday (simplifying with exponents, area of a cylinder, nth term of a sequence). He got a 50% on his last mini-test so the remainder of the session was spent answering each missed question, along with similar problems. As before, a good number of the incorrect answers were the result of division instead of multiplication (or vice versa). Things seemed to stick by the end, so I'm hopeful we made tangible progress today."
"We reviewed trigonometric identities in order to simplify expressions. In particular, we discussed the double angle formulas and the half angle formulas. The student has a good feel for the material, but needs guidance on which formulas to apply for a specific problem. After explaining the various strategies and what identities are most applicable, she can quickly solve the problem. With more review, she should be well-prepared for her next exam."
