"The student and I worked our way through a practice math section, and then tried some more challenging problems having to do with ratios and conversion. Additionally, he did a timed practice math section, and only got a few questions wrong. He ended the timed section with 10 available minutes left (2/5 of the entire time). Next session, he will do another timed section with the goals of taking up the entire time, and reading and thinking through each question thoroughly. If he spends an appropriate amount of time on each question, he can certainly get a perfect score."
"Today was my last day with the student before he takes the ACT for the first time next Saturday. We will continue to work together in May since he is taking the ACT again in June. I had him take 2 speed tests in the Reading section of the ACT. He is faster when the passages are interesting and engaging to him. We spent most of the time working on the English section of the ACT, since that is the area he feels most unsure in. I had him take two practice passages and then we went over his answers together. Then we slowly worked through some questions together and talked about some challenging grammar rules. We finished the session by talking about preparing the day of the test--eating a healthy breakfast, bringing snacks, staying hydrated, and being confident going into the test."
"We went through several multiple choice type questions. We reviewed graphs of functions, 3-dimensional shapes, lines of best fit, operations, properties of even and odd numbers, and positive integers. We also focused on interpreting what type of answer a question is looking for by picking out key math terms. The student does well with geometry questions and is doing better and using geometrical properties to answer a question. He is also doing better with operation questions and properties of different sets of numbers such as evens or positive integers."
