Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on his homework (sentence correction) and continued to focus on reading today. Occasionally he will rush through a word and mispronounce it, however, overall he's getting much better about slowing down and really sounding out words. He's also starting to see patterns."
"We worked on the letter "y" and the different sounds the letter can make. We then worked on the letter "c" and how the sounds can change in words as well. We then completed some interactive activities to reinforce this learning."
"The student and I brainstormed words around the theme "huge" for our journal, and then wrote an entire page on a "huge" giant with a boulder terrifying, a village! We did two pages on context clues from our reading workbook. We dove into subtraction with borrowing. He caught on right away!"
"Both students worked on math homework during this session. They were both doing the same worksheet. When they both finished I asked them to compare answers. They each missed a few problems, so I made them go back and redo the ones they missed. I explained to them that it's important to not just complete their homework but also do it correctly!"
"Reading skills were covered today using fiction text. Strategies for predicting, questioning, vocabulary, and main idea were used. The student was energetic and responsive today. While hesitant at first, she quickly gained confidence while reading and engaged with the reading passage. She was able to demonstrate comprehension by answering a series of questions (multiple choice and short answer). A brief review of estimating sums and differences was also conducted."
"We started with the student's spelling homework. He put the words in alphabetical order. Then he worked on his math worksheet. After that, we started a science web sheet for which we found the exact sentences to write; all that is left is for the student to copy the sentences that I wrote on a post-it note. Finally we worked on a Thanksgiving coloring activity. The student finished all the homework that is due tomorrow. We have to complete one more science web sheet and the social studies project on the United States."
