"Today we worked on comparing fractions. I taught the student two rules that he could use to compare fractions. He understood the rules and was able to apply them to a comparing fractions worksheet. I also used pictorial references to solidify this concept. He had trouble comparing fractions that had different numerators and denominators. We reviewed the problem on his worksheet that he answered incorrectly. I explained to him the steps to take when he encountered similar questions. Next I reviewed his practice worksheets that I gave him for homework. He did very well on his subtraction worksheet except problems that contained 3 digit numbers with 2 zeros. He did not do as well on his word problems worksheet so we reviewed the problems. I explained the importance of identifying key words in word problems. After completing each problem I required him to identify the key words in the word problem and state what operation the key word represented. He seemed to understand these instructions. I left him with more word problems to work on for homework."
"Today we worked on adding and comparing fractions, and mixed numbers. The student was understanding the material very well."
"We reviewed history and spelling. After, we went over his errors on a math test especially focusing on conversions of measurements."
"On Monday, the student was able to complete some of his regular homework, as well as some of a test prep packet. He's getting much better with fraction problems, requiring less help from me and remembering the steps he needs to take when adding and subtracting fractions. We decided that we need to practice increasing his speed so that he is able to complete more problems when he actually takes the state assessment."
"The student completed the grammar worksheets, math review, and most of her spelling packet. She also completed a reading comprehension worksheet."
"We went over elementary math, with the student completing two days of homework (5 questions each day). He needed help slightly with multiplication and division. He also needed help with addition and subtraction of fractions, but with every problem he's getting better. We also worked on reading comprehension with a couple questions about a WWI passage that he read. He seems to be interested in his school work and he is eager to learn, which makes it easy for me to tutor him."
