Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I went over more of her professor's slides. We went over using functions, using variables and went into comparison (if statements). She is doing well. This is no small task, she is learning core programming skills which are not easy. There is a lot to remember, so I recommend she keep practicing. Sometimes just redundant practicing is all it takes to get this skill down."
"We began with covering Microsoft Excel. The student learned how to merge cells, insert/delete rows, use formulas, and format spreadsheets. After I went over everything on Excel on my end, we switched to her screen, and she learned everything on Google Sheets. She did very well! She was very pleasant, caught on quickly, and paid close attention to everything I said."
"Today the student and I reviewed some of the topics about Windows that we covered in our last session, and then started an introduction to Microsoft Word. In Windows, we also practiced creating folders as well as Desktop icons for applications. In Microsoft Word, we talked about all of the editing that can be done from the "Home" tab."
"Today, we started with exploring iPhoto and how to crop and manipulate photos within the program. Afterwards, we set up the printer to connect wireless with the computer and printed a few test photos. It was a successful session, and I am looking forward to next week."
"The student and I worked through the remaining bits of Module 5 assignment 2 and finished up the Java coding. He should be all set to submit both the pseudocode and the Java code for this week. Because we finished that with a little extra time, we then dove into his next assignment which isn't due for a couple of weeks, but is a big jump that starts to work with Classes. I gave the student a link that he should read to become more familiar with Classes, and that's where we will pick up next week."
"During the student's first tutoring session, we covered some concepts in Microsoft Outlook, including email folder organization and Windows file structure. We also covered some basic concepts in Excel, including the SUM function. He plans on practicing with Excel further. so we can review his spreadsheets at our next session."
