Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I studied French with some prepared worksheets that I had. I continued teaching her pronunciation. I taught her the different "e" pronunciations and I reviewed with her liaison. Then we did some practice dialogues. She improved a lot from the last time we did this type of exercise."
"We had brief conversations in order to gauge the student's Spanish level. We covered concepts such as ser vs estar, how to form the future tense with ir + a + verb, and how to use the preterit. He was very enthusiastic about learning and did well in paying attention to my instructions. I gave him the strategy of listening to songs because of their repetitive choruses, and watching English videos with Spanish subtitles. I felt that we made progress in his speaking as he felt more comfortable speaking as the session went on."
"Today we were reviewing a bit of everything as the student suggested, but I noticed that diminutives and augmentatives are difficult for him, so for next session I am going to prepare that topic very well. Also, we need to practice more with simple past tense and imperfect tenses. From now and on we are going to practice many more conversations."
"The student shared with me the results of her last French test, which she was excited that it was 100%. This was the first test she took, since we have been working together. After congratulations, we worked on her homework that was a review of everything from the last three weeks. She still has difficulties with pronouncing articles un/une, de/des. However, she seems to have grasped the concept of the liaison. Finally we looked on the official website of the city of Toulouse in South France, so she has some ideas of things to do while she is there."
"The student worked on her homework: food categories, French eating habits, and European measurements. We also asked and answered questions about eating at restaurants, on the campus, and at home. We also worked on the conjugation of the verbs "pouvoir" and "devoir." I told her that she was a fast learner, but that she also needed to study the class material. I sent her practice worksheets she needs to work on."
"The student did superbly this evening. His pronunciation has definitely improved, as well as his confidence when speaking. We finished our handling of the various pronouns in French, which he handled quite well. We finished the session with an exercise that challenged him to provide the appropriate prepositions in various contexts, which necessitated not only his sound command of grammar but also of vocabulary, as certain verbs in French simply take certain prepositions. Excellent work this evening, my friend. Best of luck on the AP French Exam tomorrow. I assure you, you're going to do just fine on it."
