"Language Arts: Reviewed contractions for the student's upcoming language arts test. Reading: Read two books, focusing on sounding out words and vocabulary."
"The student will soon be taking the assessment tests, so we worked on reading for details, and summarizing. We also had time to finish up his math homework."
"I decided to focus on having the student read a story and follow up by writing a 3 sentence paragraph describing what the story is about along with main characters. This week I had her read "Arthur and the New Kid." I changed my strategy and made sure to ask questions about each page and include the pictures to help build mood. I also tried to layer the questions so that we build on what's happening hoping to increase her comprehension and retention. I was very pleased that she responded so enthusiastically to the use of pictures and she increasingly volunteered her perceptions of what the characters were feeling based on their expressions. Her comprehension is improving and I am pleased with her progress with her writing. She did a very good job with her reading and writing exercise today. Her mom had checked out a really beautiful book that was a poem with stunning illustrations. She did a great job and we had fun using the illustrations to help with her understanding of the poem."
