Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had another great day. We reviewed place value and then worked on math (numbers to 40). He is still struggling a bit with sets, which has less than, which has more than. We will work on that on Thursday. Our writing theme was cats and we brainstormed words about cats and words that rhyme with cat. We played an egg toss game and graphed our results. We read Captain Underpants."
"The student read Chapter 2 of his book. He did addition worksheets today. He also worked hard in a reading comprehension workbook, and a gifted vocabulary workbook. For his daily science we studied about how plants make food."
"Student did much better today. We were able to read two stories with a significantly less amount of guessing. We also did a decent amount of math which included addition and subtraction. She is still very eager to learn. We keep things fresh by switching to different activities."
"The student worked on her math homework this evening. Then we organized and reviewed her science notes. She has a unit test next Tuesday."
"The student and I always start our sessions out by updating his planner and working through our plan/goals for the upcoming week. He stated that he feels like he is performing well in most of his classes. We discussed the types of questions he was asked on the Spanish test, and I have begun teaching him strategies for studying for that type of test (recall). We continued our session with him working on a project for his English class over the book they are reading. Since the majority of the project was focused around literary terms, we spent most of our time defining those words. I helped him select passages that best fit the terms and we discussed the book that way. Finally, we closed the session by reviewing his Spanish flashcards. After a quiz, I ended the session by requiring him to write each Spanish word 10 times, along with it's English translation. I have challenged him to take more ownership of his studies. He continues to perform on par!"
"We prepared for a History quiz on the Islamic Empire. We studied the characteristics of and differences between the Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal Empires of the 16th and 17th centuries. For each empire, we completed a chart consisting of its leaders, development, and religious and trade practices. We read about the rise and decline of each empire in the textbook and summarized each passage in order to condense the material and create notes to study from."
