Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered SAT Math problems, namely solving and simplifying equations. He struggled with simplifying equations, creating equations based on word problems, and identifying the right variables to solve for. He was very receptive to learning the new material. He just needs to keep practicing problems to familiarize himself with these math concepts."
"The student and I did our first math session in about 10 days, and she is improving and is getting the first of her questions correct with some consistency, but now we need to be able to get her to answer 3 or 4 more questions correctly every session. Next week we'll be focusing more on problems involving adjacent and vertical angles, and their relationships. She's making great progress!"
"The student has an exam tomorrow on rational expressions (simplifying the expressions by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing) and solving equations with rational expressions. We spent the entire session working on practice problems. She began the session feeling unsure with the material and by then end was able to swiftly, and successfully, complete the problems on her own."
"This was another excellent session with the student. We reviewed a short story he had written, and we reviewed many other short stories, with him analyzing them to determine their good and bad points. I believe he is making real progress, and I will be sending along a diagnostic test for him to analyze writing passages."
"Today, we worked on the English section of the ACT. Overall, the student does very well in English, but we found some areas that she needs to focus on more. Summary questions and punctuation were the majority of her errors. We will focus on these areas in our next session."
"The student did a great job today! He was receptive, intelligent, and readily embraced concepts. I think a refresher on some things and some strategies will definitely boost his score."
"Final session! The student did very well. We went over some math that I thought she might still need some extra practice in, and she did wonderfully with all of the problems in the practice section. She had more than enough time to finish every problem. We finished by working on a very difficult vocabulary section, and she did pretty well. I expect she will have no problem on the test. I hope she is able to relax this week and feel rested and ready on Saturday. Best of luck to her with the test and her school applications. She's a great kid, and hopefully, she'll do as well as I think she can. Feel free to email me any questions you have throughout the week if anything comes up before test time."
"This session, we focused on grammar/ Identifying Sentence Errors exercises. For homework, the student will work on more word roots for a quiz next session and work on Improving Paragraphs techniques and exercises."
"The student and I began by working on converting fractions, decimals, and percents between each other. We followed that up with area, perimeter, and angles. We finished the session with more vocabulary drills, putting everything together. I'm very impressed by the progress she has made in vocabulary."
"Today, we went over another one of the student's practice tests and introduced graphing/slope. My immediate goal is to get as familiar her as possible with the test, and I think that, at this rate, she will do very well on her test next week."
"The student and I worked through some difficult Math and Science problems today. We focused on recognizing the type of Math problem and applying what we know about Math to each problem as a type and not an individual problem. She is going to complete the difficult Science test for homework, since Science was one of her harder subjects on the last ACT."
"We worked on SAT math - with a particular focus on word problems. The student struggles a bit with sussing out how to translate these problems into mathematical equations. Once prodded in the right direction, he works through them with speed and accuracy. So, we specifically discussed key words to look for. We will need to continue to review this. When he returns to school next week, he will get the results of his most recent diagnostic, and we will have scores to benchmark against and an understanding of any timing concerns there may be."
