Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed an overview of topics that will be covered on the US History SAT II exam. This preliminary session was used to identify areas of strength, topics that he has background in, areas in US history that he can effectively analyze the importance of people, places, and events in a specific era of US history. We also worked on identifying gaps in his understanding of US history. This will allow for more specific lessons in the future. We worked on a practice SAT II test. He demonstrated strong background throughout each of the questions. During this practice exam we also worked on test taking skills, specific to breaking down historical type questions based on time period and social issues going on during that time. The questions where he was not confident have now become focus areas for future meetings."
"The student and I tackled a large assignment on dialects for "end of life care" for his communications class. He came to our session prepared and I am happy with his consistency in completing the homework. He was able to identify the thesis and purpose of the article he read without any prompting. I think he is finding success on the assignments that we specifically go through question by question before he does his reading. This particular assignment has some difficult questions and high expectations. We spent our entire session on this assignment. The last question is to write a short summary and review. We were unable to finish this question in our time today. He has homework to review the annotated bib expectations and to write some notes from the article for us to use to write the summery tomorrow."
"We reviewed a homework reading assignment she did first. Then we looked at her diagnostic and saw improvement in many areas. Next we started practicing functions, especially focusing on domain and range. We used learning tools and went over problems together. Then we used her practice book and went over sample problems, first her and then together. Next week we are going to go over her diagnostic and continue working through problems in her practice book. I gave her the rest of a set of 18 to do for homework."
