Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed strategies and practice on document-based questions, analyzing and grouping sources, outlining, and thesis statements."
"We reviewed the work for the week and undertook exercises to further his understanding of topics. We prepared tasks for completion the following week."
"For the first thirty minutes, I worked with the students on French. I gave them two activities to practice the future tense and the 3rd person plural forms in the present (what we covered last week). For the remaining 90 minutes, I worked with Student A on world history. I first discussed what he has been covering in class and looked at the handouts and book. We then worked through the better part of the outline his teacher gave him. This helped him better explain what he understood, and I explained/elaborated as needed. It was important to determine what his teacher expects, since I don't want to take the sessions in another direction. I asked him to make comparisons and contrasts (e.g. Hinduism vs. Judaism, Buddhism vs. Christianity) to help him better remember the plethora of data he needs to know. At the end, he asked better, more focused questions about areas he was unclear on (e.g. the concept of social hierarchy). This makes me think the first part of the session did help him better remember what he has been learning."
