Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The students both took the exams and scored above average on some topics and below on others, which will inform our next session. The first student and I worked on fluency, accuracy, and error analysis on multiplication problems, then we moved on to decoding, fluency, accuracy, prosody, reading comprehension, inferences based on a text, and identifying key supporting details within a text. The second student and I worked on reading comprehension, inferences, identifying key supporting details, forming opinions on a text based on evidence, decoding, and more using a reading passage. Then, she and I worked on subtraction problems where we subtracted by tens and ones for both accuracy and fluency. No extra practice was given- they have homework and daily reading already assigned."
"Each student worked through some math and chemistry, which made for a fairly quick session. It seems that student 1 works more efficiently while in the office and under supervision. We didn't spend any time on the ACT this week, which we should begin reviewing for problem solving techniques in the near future."
"The student is preparing to take a big test, so we spent most of our session going over a practice test. Overall she did very well, but she had a little difficulty with parameters and areas. We did spend some time on them at the end of the session, but I want to work on them more next time."
"We continued to cover parts of a whole using cubes. We extended our groups to 20. We also worked on addition and subtraction word problems. The student continues to rely on manipulatives but is improving her fluency."
"Today we went over the student's exam. We also covered logs and the exponential function. He just took a test so he did not have much to ask for. He, however, has enough material to go over. this was the best session so far."
"We covered using tree diagrams to represent a sample space and to calculate probabilities. We corrected and reviewed some homework assignments. The student seems to be unchallenged with the material/pace of the class. She understands most of the basic concepts. The occasional complex word problem will give her pause but she has yet to be stumped."
