Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered specifically confidence intervals, type 1 and type 2 errors, designing a controlled, randomized experiment, and also estimating probabilities for distributions. The student seems to indicate knowledge with the material and seems to understand things more intuitively. No concerns for this session."
"We covered some long division, finding fractions of whole numbers, word problems. I would like to work with the student to increase the ability to visualize single and double digit multiplication and division."
"We reviewed a test on quadratics and polynomials, correcting mistakes. We then did polynomial application word problems. The student did well. I think more practice will help him develop problem solving strategies."
"We reviewed the student's homework, which involved functions. I gave him a lesson and practice on systems of functions, the inverse of a function, and functions with square roots.
As our session progressed, he began to fully understand systems of functions, which proved applicable to subsequent lessons."

"The student and I reviewed how to operate with and simplify rational expressions for his Algebra 2 class. To start off, I showed him some methods to factor out trinomials and binomials. Using these methods, he completed his homework successfully, while I mirrored his work and provided guidance through some of the problems. The student does well factoring trinomials involving one variable. By the end of the session, he was able to do many of the problems on his own and use textual clues to simplify the expressions further.
Our next session is Sunday."

"We reviewed concepts from our first session, checked homework, and worked on word problems that are the next topic in class. I stressed the three step process that is in the text book for work problems. The student seemed to catch on. He is doing better and gaining confidence."
"We covered the chapter review for her upcoming chapter test. The student was able to successfully answer more of the problems without aid. She struggled more with problems that had unfamiliar or verbose terminology, where she had to break them down into digestible steps before she could solve them. I highlighted which sections of the book she still needed to review more in order to cement them before her test."
"We reviewed the student's recent math quiz on 2x2 digit multiplication and word problems. He corrected problems, and we realized the misconceptions he had about multiplication algorithm. We practiced a few 2 step multiplication word problems and multiplying with decimals using the algorithm."
"Today we worked on finding roots of quadratic equations (and some higher degree) by factoring and applications to numbers and projectiles. The student got a 100 and a 91 on his most recent quizzes for which he has grades. He has a third quiz he hasn't gotten back yet, and another quiz on Friday or early next week."
"Today we reviewed for the student's chapter test coming up on Tuesday inverse functions, composite functions, combinations of functions, local maxima/minima, and the like. He sometimes misses details like keeping track of negative signs, but otherwise he is quite confident with this chapter's material."
"We covered topics in Algebra 2 concerning long division and factoring of polynomials. We also covered radioactive materials and half life in chemistry. They seemed to struggle on long division of polynomials the most."
"Today we transitioned from linear equations and inequalities to sequences, series, and linear functions. I introduced the student to the two major types of sequences, the explicit equations for determining a particular value and the sum of part of or the entire sequence, the difference between converging vs. diverging, finite vs. infinite, and what makes an equation a function instead of a relation. She picked up on the logic behind the equations and the important difference between a value's location in the sequence and its actual value, but there was something missing from our discussion that prevented her from solving problems requiring two steps, instead of one step, to the answer. We will continue to focus on sequences and series next session before continuing our lesson on functions."
