Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on a problem set focused on graphing functions. We discussed even vs odd functions, symmetry, and graphing techniques. She informed me that she received a B on her last test, which is an improvement from a C on the previous test. I am confident she will continue to improve throughout the semester."
"We worked on finding a sale price from a % discount. I worked with the student to identify a 2-step solution process: find dollar difference and find percent of original. The student is having difficulty generating an equation to solve based on the problem. The student began to understand at the end of the session, but I recommended more practice and another tutoring session next week."
"In this session we worked on adding and subtracting polynomials. I walked the student through several examples and had her identify the like terms that can be added/subtracted. Then I had her work on the remaining problems on her own as I assisted her and corrected her work, explaining to her what she did wrong. Overall, she did understand that only like terms can be combined."
"We covered inequalities. We started from the basic steps involved in grouping the like terms and then progressed into dividing both sides by the coefficient of x and graphing the inequality. At first, the student continuously made mathematical sign errors, but after much reinforcement of the need to carry on each sign, his accuracy improved tremendously. He did a lot of classwork, and I was satisfied with his performance on leaving."
"Today, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming algebra test tomorrow. Judging from his quiz grade, an 87, I feel that he will do very well on this test. He went through the review very well and I truly felt like he understood the concepts. He would shout answers even before I could catch up to where he was at! The test is tomorrow, and I can't wait to see the results!"
"We went over algebra material to help prepare the student for her test she is taking today. There was a quite a few things that she needed help with but she did make great progress over the time I spent with her. What I did a lot was make up problems that would highlight her deficiencies in the work which involved determining the slope, y-int, etc. I think she understands the material at the beginning level but I hope she is better prepared in the future to process the material at a higher level. This can come about with more exposure to the material."
