Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This afternoon, the student and I reviewed some problems for her upcoming Math exam. The problems covered asymptotes, finding intercepts, and determining the least common denominator. She seems to have a strong understanding of the material and feels confident she will do well."
"The student practiced his multiplication facts up through 5 x 9 today. He learned stories and associated pictures for 5 x 5, 5 x 6, 5 x 7, 5 x 8, and 5 x 9. He took a quiz on facts 2's through 4's and got 100%. He is working towards automaticity. We then explored how to find the area of a rectangle and a triangle. He did part of a worksheet finding the area of rectangles."
"Today, I covered concepts and formulas of circles and parabolas. We did some practice problems and the student did well in applying the formulas. He needs more practices to make sure he understands the material very well."
"We completed problem-solving techniques that required using systems of equations, variable manipulation, and solution resolution. We also reviewed special triangles, polygons, arc length, and polynomial factoring."
"The student and I covered word problems, division, and the multiplication table (particularly 6's, 7's, and 9's). She struggled with word problems involving division, but needs help with the actual math before we practice more word problems. Her main problem was actually that she kept trying to do most of the problems in her head. She needs to write out everything she is thinking and she needs to feel free to say she needs help. Another problem wasn't word problems but figuring out how many times one number goes into another (e.g. how many times 7 goes into 53) during long division. Sometimes she would go one beyond, like saying 7 goes into 53 eight times instead of seven. This will just take practice. Next time, I will bring her a multiplication table and instructions on how to do long division. She went from not being able to do long division to being able to get halfway through it."
"The student and I reviewed for her upcoming pre-calculus test. The concepts we worked on include finding the values of trig functions using double angle and half-angle formulas, determining which quadrant the trig functions are in and whether they are positive or negative, and simplifying expressions with fractions and square roots. She is a fast learner and she did excellently on the double angle and half-angle trig problems."
