Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
" In today's session we worked on both math and reading sections. The student has improved a lot in the algebraic portion of the test. We reviewed rules of exponents and radicals today. In reading we worked through practice passages. She has improved a lot in understanding the main idea and tone. She has also improved a lot in going back to the passage to look for answers."
"Today we worked entirely on Math. I noticed in prior sessions that the student has a slight weakness when it comes to arithmetic fundamentals, so today I gave him some problems that tested his ability to work with percents. He is fine when dealing with percents 1-100, but his understanding of the concepts involved is shaky, so he has trouble with percents under 1 (IE, 1/3 %) or over 100 (IE 10000%). After a couple of problems worth of practice, he was able to solve even the most ridiculous numbers I threw at him (I asked him several times today for percents in the millions). I gave him the remaining percent problems from today as homework to solidify his comfort level."
"We went over how to find if lines are parallel, the equation of parallel lines, and using the slope of parallel lines to solve problems. These concepts used previously to learn equations and ideas so she was successful at solving them. We then did the same for perpendicular lines which also went well. Transformations were slightly more challenging but only because she needed a refresher. Once she was more familiar with the concept she was able to answer the questions correctly. We also discussed the structure of the test and what the extra time could mean for her on each section. We're going to go over scoring more next time. For next time, I am sending her problems to review what we did this previous session as well as the reading problem set she already has."
