Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for his chemistry class. We worked problems finding molarity and the pH level of different solutions."
"We went through acids and bases today. We answered some questions of acids and bases together. Then, we went through chapters of last exams, which included Boyle's Law, Charles' Law, and the ideal gas law."
"The student and I reviewed redox reactions, including definition of oxidation and reduction, how to identify oxidation and reduction agents, and how to balance redox reactions."
"We went over the student's study guide for a test and a lab write-up. The study guide specifically went over acids and bases and definitions for terms such as dissociation, ionization, weak, strong, dilute, and concentrated. There were a few calculations involving molarity and pH. The laboratory write-up involved the addition of HCl to various compounds, noting the reactions, and then inferring the products from the chemical equations. He had to make sure the ionic formulas were charge balanced, and then the chemical equations had to be balanced. One reaction involved three compounds, so it had to written out as two separate reactions: namely CaCO3 + Mg(OH)2 + HCl had to be rewritten, then each equation dealt with individually."
"Today, the student and I worked on review of stoichiometry - naming compounds, writing chemical formulas, figuring out molar ratios and how much of product/ reactant is generated. We also reviewed Coulomb's Law and Gibbs Free Energy equations. She is doing really well; she has scored 100 on the last couple of quizzes and is looking to get an A this semester."
"The student was ready to start when I arrived. We worked on a review of reaction rates. It was very easy at first, but we moved onto more challenging questions. Overall, she showed good knowledge and a great attitude today. I encouraged her to keep up the good work."
