Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is really excited about programming. Once we got started, we discussed what he would like to get out of sessions with me, and various programming languages. After talking, he and I agreed to begin with Python, which will bring him up to speed as a programmer quite quickly, then we will move on to C++ later. We downloaded some of the free textbooks that have been made available from the online community, and installed Python. I then began showing him the interface. Next week, we will begin chapter one of our textbook."
"I helped the student set up his Linux Samba server linked with Windows. His Samba server was not configured correctly. He was motivated towards learning the configurations. I used Linux and Windows networking skills to help him troubleshoot the issue. He will continue with the rest of the lab and we are planning to meet tomorrow again to resume the topic."
"We covered C programming and making a function that sums two numbers. We also made a function that computes the for loop. Initially, he had slight difficulty with data types, but we worked through it. He could essentially read my mind."
"We covered arrays, linked lists, and specifically how to insert an item into a linked list. We also reviewed some material that may be on the midterm exam such as the difference between a delete and a destructor. The student understands the material very well and just needs a review since it's been awhile since he had to use it. We will work through the assignments in the future so he has a good understanding going forward."
"We reviewed loops, arrays, ArrayList, and the way that static functions work. We practiced an AP example problem that addressed looping and averages. We also discussed String methods, the Java API, and Exceptions."
