Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on one- and two-mean hypothesis testing after having the t-distribution introduced. As opposed to z-tests she is still working on understanding the idea behind t-tests and when they are applied. While the process of hypothesis testing is firmly in her mind, she is working on which type of testing to use and when. This has been her struggle from day one, but she is determined to succeed at learning the why behind statistics."
"We went through using the z-score and assigning variables, as well as probability with continuous variables. As most people do, the student has some difficulty with the concept of sampling distributions; we'll work more on that in the future."
"Today we met for the first time, went over upcoming projects and caught her up on the subjects that had confused her in the past. We will probably meet over the weekend to work on an upcoming portfolio project."
"We worked through half of the student's review for his Stat. test, going through the ideas around each questions and discussing the necessary equations. We set out a good amount of groundwork for the subject on which the next part of the review will build."
"The student and I continued our conversation on confidence intervals, estimating for both population proportion and population mean. We started a couple sections of a project due next week and reviewed some homework problems as well."
"The student and I reviewed his homework assignment from Module 5, mostly focusing on binomial distribution problems. The material is fairly foreign to him, so repetition and review really helps things to sink in for him. Coming back to concepts like mean and standard deviation and how to calculate them helps keep them at the front of his mind. He has his first midterm in the next module, so we will be able to see how well the material is retained."
