Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Mini lesson on factoring quadratics, worked on sample problems. Left some worksheets to review and also talked about triangle problems. Returned to previously unfinished practice test and completed all other problems, skipping the trig ones. Very good progress. Feeling confident. Decided to work on geometry and trig next sessions with another attempted practice test after next session to see if we're approaching our target of 40 questions right."
"We focused on completing sections of the practice tests in the back of the book, focusing on sentence improvement and passage reading as well as one math section. The student needs to continue focusing on reading each question carefully and making sure she answers the question."
"We did geometry drill problems today. We followed that by doing a practice section. The student hasn't shown progress since the beginning of the month. I'll cover some more techniques. Hopefully next session will be different and we will see improvement in her scores."
"I reviewed the students previous SAT to determine her areas of improvement. She had the most errors in critical reading, specifically related to verb-pronoun and subject-pronoun agreements as well as prepositional phrases. We set a schedule for our next 3 sessions to review lessons on these. I also assigned readings and related practice problems. We reviewed her college essay draft and I gave feedback , which she will consider when writing her second draft."
"The student and I went through 25 math problems from a practice test, reviewing several math concepts as we went along. We especially focused on trigonometry and on strategies for simplifying multi-step problems. The student has become very adept at using elimination and logic to narrow down her answer choices without doing extra time-consuming steps."
"Today we had a good session. The student did three timed reading sections. We will continue to review vocabulary and inference questions to improve her overall comprehension."
"She is a strong math student; she has a firm foundation but needs some work regarding some of the more advanced concepts on the test that she hasn't yet learned. We went over her practice test, and since that was missing some of the concepts that showed up on her actual test, I went to the practice questions and found some problems on right triangles, area, and transversals and then started on factoring which she has not covered in school."
"Today we were extremely productive! We reviewed the student's math homework for quantitative comparisons and geometry. He was extremely strong with both subjects. We also finished some geometry review. We then went to synonyms and he was given some techniques and tricks to help conquer these. We completed about 20 practice problems and I will be sending some more over tonight. We also talked about reading comprehension. He was given some techniques and tricks to help conquer these passages. We did about 4 passages and he did pretty well. I will be sending over some reading comprehension practice tonight as well. Next session we will be going over sentence completion and the essay!"
"This session went quite well. We worked on arithmetic and algebra. We did not get through all the arithmetic problems, so we will continue working on those on Tuesday. The student has also requested that we work on English on Tuesday, so we will do some reps with related questions."
"I worked with the student on setting goals for the ISEE test, and we worked on the mathematics achievement portion of the exam. I taught her some strategies and tricks, and I left her with things she should practice."
"Reviewed 1 problem from the student's last real SAT. Did word problems and geometry from online test prep site."
"Today, we finished covering all of the topics that the student might see on the Calculus assessment exam. We worked on area under the curve, growth and decay, and summation notation. We also reviewed position, velocity, and acceleration problems."
