Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered analysis of variance and principal components factor analysis. The student is preparing for an upcoming test, and we went over problems computing the ANOVA components by hand and using STATA. We also fit a principal components factor analysis model using STATA."
"The student has his AP statistics test tomorrow and was worried about his performance on his last quiz. In our session, we covered chapter 22 of his textbook, which discussed two proportion tests. We discussed when to use a two proportion test as well as how to use the formula itself. We also discussed the advantages of pooling populations and how that affects the data. Lastly, we went over his quiz on chapter 22 and discussed the errors he made and how to avoid them. I'm confident he will do well on this test!"
"Tonight, the student and I went over some review problems. We covered 5 number summaries as well as different sampling techniques. Specifically, we covered simple random samples, stratified samples, as well as convenience sampling. We also discussed biased samples and how they might over or underestimate the measured outcome. Lastly, we covered finding critical values for 2 sample t-tests. The student had a good understanding of these concepts and was able to complete most of the review exercises with little additional explanation."
"We finished up problems the student was concerned about for his midterm tomorrow. He is very comfortable with the calculator formulas. We discussed some other things he will need to have memorized, such as the formula for z-score."
"We worked with simple graphing topics such as slope, position vs. time graphs, calculating intersections, and finding points that satisfy an equation. I am really trying to steer the student away from memorizing processes associated with certain clue words each question asks because I feel this doesn't ensure you really understand what you are doing."
"The student and I covered concepts of probability. We reviewed some of his assignments and went on to cover some upcoming things as well. He scored really well on his first exam, with a solid A, so I feel that was a big win."
