Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight the student and I reviewed her homework on probability . She just touched on the material in her class and we worked through the problems using the tree and chart methods of solving. After doing a few problems, she began to understand the concepts and no longer felt the need to use a tree/chart. Overall, she seems to have a solid understanding of probability."
"The student and I spent this session working on common denominators -- what they are, why they're useful, and how to find them. By the halfway mark he could solve pretty much any problem I gave him. Next session we'll see how much has sunk in and how much we need to go over again."
"We met to work through different facets of her Mathematics course. She's had a difficult time connecting what they have been doing in class to what she'll need to use when she's teaching students. Right now they have been working on divisibility rules, prime factorization, greatest common divisor, and least common multiple. I tried to put everything in context so she would have a better understanding of the content."
"The student and I read through "I Am Malala" and annotated the margins. We looked for passages in the book that related to her reading questions about characterization in autobiographies. We also answered questions to prepare for dissecting earthworms."
"The student continued to work on multiplication math facts. He has demonstrated the ability to recall all of the multiplication table. Now he just needs to brush up his skills and begin doing computations in his homework to stay current and reinforce what he has learned. We read two more chapters in the book Hatchet. The student also finished two more sections of grammar study."
"I asked for what she felt she needed the most practice with, and she felt that fractions and decimals are the most difficult concepts for her. To start, she did word problems with mixed operations of adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. Multiplying was new for her, but we reviewed it and she did excellent with it. After that, she completed comparing and ordering fractions work. Finding common denominators and cross-multiplying were two concepts we focused on for these assignments. Next session, we will continue with the "Practice and Problem Solving" from the lesson we were working on today."
