"Today the student and I continued crafting stories. He's been working very hard at sounding out words to really listen to the letter sounds and then writing them down. Occasionally he gets confused between when ck and k is needed. However, he understands English on a technical level. Now it's coming down to repeating certain words and simply memorizing which ones use ck and which ones use k."
"The student continued reading his book, "Dinosaurs Before Dark." He read chapters 7-8. He also finished up week 1 of his spelling and writing book. He also completed work in math, spelling, reading, and science. The science discussion focused on what different animals eat."
"He reached his 250 point milestone so today it was superhero day. We brainstormed words related to superheroes. Then, he wrote about a superhero in his daily journal. We read some superhero books and imagined what would happen if two superheroes met. We worked with manipulatives to help him understand place values--one and ten. He got it and made the leap to the "hundreds" place. We finished the chapter on graphing in math. We finished up by starting a superhero jigsaw puzzle that he will finish with his dad over the weekend."
"Today, the student and I reviewed Math word problems and his Reading project. We worked on his use of details to describe the elements in a story. I worked with him to find more descriptive words to replace words such as "happy" or "sad." He was very receptive and tried very hard. He is a great kid."
"We discussed the student's math homework of rounding numbers up to a hundred thousand and then adding those numbers with regrouping. I will provide more practice for him on this skill. Then we reviewed vocabulary words for next week. Next we reviewed spelling words while discussing a worksheet that was for homework. We then reviewed comprehension questions from Lewis and Clark."
"The student and I worked on multiplication facts. We also completed an additional multiplication comparison worksheet. He does extremely well when he is allowed to use his manipulatives. He is very eager to learn and I appreciate his persistence. We also completed a reading assignment. He read a story and effectively placed the story events in the correct sequence."
