Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In addition to reading from his assigned book, we reviewed a reading comprehension test he had taken but didn't do very well on. I made notes on the test explaining why he missed the questions marked incorrect. After reviewing the comprehension test, we read his chapter book and answered comprehension questions."
"We began the session by playing the high frequency words Uno game - he did a fantastic job. I think it is time to change the words in the game. We then read two books. His fluency was great. When reading, he attempted to read unknown words by segmenting them. We then reviewed his most recent list of high frequency words; it took him 1 minute and 57 seconds. We then reviewed his previous list because I wanted to make sure he had retained them in his memory. He was able to read the list in 1 minute and 25 seconds without making any mistakes. We then went back to the current list of words. He was able to complete the list in 1 minute and 30 seconds. He hesitated on/self-corrected the words until, song, across, and dusty. We then did a short/long vowel sort. He hasn't yet mastered that concept so we will revisit short/long vowels. We ended the session by reading words with 2 vowels in them."
"He finished reading the class book. He answered comprehension questions and had some difficulty recalling the information. When he reread the parts of the text, he understood what the questions were asking for. Phrasing his answers was challenging, but after trying different ways, he figured out how to write the sentences."
