"The student reported he had had a 27 on previous ACT but did not have information on sub-test scores. We used some online resources to practice English Diagnostic Test 1, through question 50. We discussed what the questions were designed to test and various strategies, including how to proceed through the questions at a fast pace, since ACT is a race-the-clock exam. He reported that he felt relatively confident with the verbal aspects of ACT and he did do well with most of the English questions we tried. I asked him to do the English Diagnostic Test 2 from same source "against the clock" as homework between now and tomorrow's session. We will discuss missed items and then move on to Science."
"The session with the student went very well! We went over all SAT subjects including the essay, doing a total of 40 problems. We also went over two science sections. She demonstrates a great overall understanding of the material, and I expect great things from her scores!"
"This session we finished with a practice English test and moved on to a practice Reading test. The reading section has been the student's strongest section thus far. Much of what we went over was how to address the time management (focusing on the intro and conclusion of the passage and moving quickly over the rest of the passage) and applying techniques that we have talked about in other passages like focusing on the keywords in the question and over-emphasizing their necessary presence in the correct answer choice."
