Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was assigned a practice of the "ojala" use with the past subjunctive tense, given a situation to read and understand in Spanish, and then create two responses to each situation using the "ojala" and past subjunctive. He was then tasked with completing a translation using the correct forms of the past subjunctive and imperfect subjunctive cases. Finally he was given a portion of a late 80s pop song by Mexican singer Luis Miguel to translate into the appropriate tense and, when finished, listen to the song on YouTube."
"We worked on his Spanish packet. The task was to respond to a detailed email, making sure to address all of the questions in the email, and also ask for further information. We spent about a third of the time working through the techniques and instructions for approaching these types of questions, a third of the time working through the text, and a third of the time working on the response. I think the student overall has a great understanding of these texts."
"Tomorrow he has a test on the subjunctive tense. Because this one is particularly difficult, we spent the entire session reviewing the concepts of the tense and practiced using it in a variety of circumstances. Because it very much a heavily concept based tense, much of the session was used making sure he really understood the circumstances in which to the use subjunctive versus the indicative tenses. He is an extremely bright young man and caught on very quickly to the tricks and tools I was showing him. I believe he will do excellently on his test tomorrow and will continue to thrive in Spanish."
