Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had been assigned a lesson involving the use of "if" clauses and the utilization of the conditional perfect tenses. The lesson assignment was to review the use of these "if" clauses and conditional tenses through several poems. He then was to create a series of example poems demonstrating his understanding/practice of "if" clauses using appropriate conditional tense use in context. It was a challenging assignment as the creation of romantic poetry in a 2nd language isn't in the "wheelhouse" of most students. He however, demonstrated perseverance in creating many short poems/examples and did so with a sense of humor."
"Yesterday was my first session with the student. Right off the bat, I was impressed with his level of Spanish. He seemed ready and excited to work towards obtaining a 5 on his upcoming AP test. We began reviewing some material I had brought that is directly related to the Advanced Placement test. We completed several writing exercises, as well as some listening comprehension. Though he skipped Spanish 4 and is missing some essential grammar for the AP, over the course of our lessons I'm sure I will have no trouble conveying this to him and that he will absorb it in no time. Overall, it was an excellent lesson."
"Student is very interested in learning nouns and verbs that are conceptual in nature and deal with civics. To help him reach this goal, I asked him to read and translate three articles dealing with due process, transparency, and corruption. His pronunciation and comprehension are strong. In addition to reading and translating articles, I quizzed him on his present tense verb conjugation, and we agreed that it would be helpful if he had fill-in-the-blank-type drills to practice his conjugation. We also reviewed the flash cards that he had made during the previous tutoring session. He spoke to me at length in English about the history of community policing in the United States. Seeing that this was a topic in which he is an expert, I asked him to repeat this monologue in Spanish. He was able to repeat most of his explanation in Spanish, thus practicing his conversation skills for about 10 minutes."
