"We covered the Monopolistic Competition and Advertising chapter PowerPoint and went over the quiz together. We figured out that there is a difference between the way most people talk about competition and monopoly, and the way economists talk about it, and that affects how to answer questions. Next weekend we will cover the next 3 chapters."
"We went over the unit problem set front to back. She solved them and I talked her through the conceptual issues as she went. We covered marginal products and marginal value theory, basic effects of supply and demand, elasticities, and efficiency wage theory."
"I worked with the student on Chapters 6 and 8 of the economics 200 course. We mostly covered tax burden, supply and demand graphs, elasticity of supply and demand, and subsidies. The student seems a bit confused that the inelasticity of supply/demand makes that side more susceptible to bear a majority of the benefits/burdens of an effect. We worked through several problems approaching them in several ways: trying to eliminate answers to inductively find the correct answer, trying to use graphs to find the best answer, and to understand definitions and concepts. For Chapter 8, we covered price floors and ceilings. In both cases, we worked with multiple choice and short answer questions. I left her with the notes that I had made for the session, and what I hope to be a better understanding of the microeconomics concepts we covered."
