Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued working on solving for mean, median, and mode. We did some problems incorporating decimals into our work."
"He worked on his homework in elementary math, science and English. I went over any errors he made, which were largely grammatical in his English homework. We will likely study for math next time. He's a great, cheerful and motivated student."
"The student and I went over adding and subtracting with fractions. We took a look at word problems, in particular."
"In math, I've shifted the focus from basic addition and subtraction back to basic number sense. At this juncture, it will serve the student better to have a head start on skip counting by tens, holding up fingers quickly to show numbers, and counting backwards. We're also working more on correlating letters to their sounds, and then trying to apply that to books (on a singular letter basis, not whole words). We're working on writing numbers and letters as well."
"This was the initial session with the students' mom and dad. We went over the goals and priorities for math and reading for both students. Student A's math will focus on what he's currently learning, while introducing concepts that will arise next year to identify and work on fundamental math concepts to ensure that he strengthens those abilities. Reading will focus on overall comprehension, identification of plots, themes, tones, etc. Student B's math will focus on what he is currently learning, keeping things challenging but with a little more flexibility than his brother's sessions. His reading will focus more on tone, nuance, etc. They are great, sweet boys, and they're very excited to get started."
"Today we finished going through the last packet. We practiced our multiplication tables, division and subtraction with borrowing. The student does very well; she just needs lots of practice and reinforcement. I left her with a worksheet to practice and review her multiplication tables."
