Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session with the student, I covered new material after her second exam as well as discussed a little bit on how she felt about the exam so we could prepare better for her final exam. Then, I discussed a new section about revenue/cost/profit functions and marginal cost/revenue functions. I went through examples and she then worked on problems and I guided her while she solved the problems. She also worked on homework problems for this section."
"We continued our work with power series and Taylor series today, explaining how to perform operations on series including multiplication, addition, and derivation. We also spent some time learning about coordinate shifts, that is, how to move a function without changing it so as to make it easier to construct a power series about it. The class was expected to memorize the directions of coordinate shifts, but we went over a method for deriving it each time involving u-substitution."
"We covered more of the student's chapter review for Chapter 3. These questions focused on derivation of trigonometric functions, and continued to use rules such as product, power, chain, and quotient rule as well as u-substitution. We also covered logarithm rules and implicit differentiation."
"We started working on an exam review. We decided to divide the review into three parts. We started on the section on limits. She is able to find the correct solution and understand the concept of continuity over a defined domain."
"The unit the student began working on Monday includes inverse trig differentiation and integration, slope fields, and differential equations. Today, we focused exclusively on inverse trig differentiation through his homework. He's doing much better at showing his work and then taking the couple extra seconds to do it right. This is awesome progress. He's also gaining strength in areas he was struggling. U-substitution is becoming easier for him. Thursday, we begin AP Practice."
"The student had a two part test Wednesday and today, so we had more spread out random tutoring sessions to prepare him for his test. This week, we just prepared for his test. I created practice problems for each of the types he had encountered thus far. He told me he felt really good about the test portion he took today, and he felt pretty good about Wednesday."
